You can make a difference in Oxfordshire

Volunteer with the Oxfordshire branch of the MNDA. We are all volunteers who want to make a positive difference to the quality of life of people living with MND and their families.

We raise money to offer help to all the people living with MND in Oxfordshire and to fund research into the causes of the disease and ways of treating it.

And we campaign to raise awareness of the disease and the impact it has on the lives of people who live with it.

There are many ways you can get involved!

Fundraising is a great way to show your support for those living with MND and at the same time…

Campaigning

People living with MND and professionals caring for them and volunteers have encouraged people to sign the MND Charter which sets out how people with the disease should be supported and treated. Some Oxfordshire MPs have signed, and the Oxford United Hospitals Trust and Oxford City Council. We are campaigning for other service providers to sign and to work together to support people with MND living in the county.

Add your own name to the Charter and help in getting your MP and others to add their voices.

How do we spend the money raised?

We hold social meetings throughout the year for people living with MND and their families and friends and some of the professionals who provide services in order to share experience, to find out about help available and simply to enjoy the company.

Contributions are made to the costs, for people locally, of essential equipment , like stair lifts, hoists and wet rooms. We help pay for counselling and complementary therapies. Paying for taxis enables people to come to events or get to appointments and we help towards the costs of vehicle adaptations and holidays.

Via our national organisation we help fund research programmes into the causes of the disease and treatments for it.

Association Visitors

Association Visitors are trained volunteers who

  • offer support and friendship to people affected by MND
  • visit at home or keep in touch by telephone or email
  • work as part of a team and understand confidentiality
  • provide a link to the MNDA and other local sources of help

If you would like to get involved in this way, for more information contact our Regional Care Development Officer.
