Branch Walk 2016
A fine day out and £3,938 raised
On 8 October 2016 the weather was a little on the grey side, drizzle here and there, and rather chilly. Gloves, hats and scarves made their first outings of the year. This did not however deter the 100 walkers who descended on Blenheim Palace Park for the Oxfordshire Branch MND two mile and 5 mile walks!
Along with gloves, hats and scarves walkers wore proud smiles as they made their way through the grounds of the Palace, to raise awareness and funds for Oxfordshire Branch. Blue MND t-shirts created quite a picture as they wound their way along the conker strewn footpaths.
An added extra this year was a fun tombola organised by one of the wonderful Branch volunteers. This alone has raised over £100 which will go directly to the Branch to support people living with MND in Oxfordshire.
Rain held off and by the end of the walks everyone was feeling a little warmer. Certificates were distributed to mark the end of a fabulous day, in great company, with lots of chatter, and a few shivers here and there.
Many thanks to all the brave walkers, generous volunteers, and Blenheim Palace – for support on the day, and in preparation for the walk. Look out for the date for the 2017 walk – we hope to see you there!
Why Trishna Gandhi and Owen Murr did the walk
I and my partner Owen decided to join the Oxfordshire MND branch for their 5k walk around Blenheim Palace because it is a cause close to my best friends Kim’s heart.
We are getting married in February 2018 and Kim has helped us a lot with wedding plans so far and I wanted to give Kim a gift that would mean something and not just be worn and put in the back of a draw.
Kim’s dad was diagnosed with MND a few years ago and he and Kim’s mum attend regular support groups etc in Northamptonshire. So I thought what better way to show Kim how much I appreciate all she does for me as a friend than to help raise money for a charity that means a lot to her and her family.
Altogether with the help of Owen and Kim we raised approx. £250 through a just giving page and sponsorship forms. We met some fabulous people on the day from the Oxfordshire branch and have received good support from Michelle, the organiser, and we will definitely do the walk again.
