Volunteering
Volunteers founded the MND Association and continue to play a leading role in its development. They make a positive difference to the quality of life of people with MND and their families.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life bringing a variety of skills. You can choose how much time and commitment you want to give and whether this is occasional or on a regular basis. Some volunteering activities involve attending meetings which are held in the evenings or at weekends whilst other roles can be performed entirely from home. Whatever your skills or availability, there is likely to be a role suitable for you.
Where necessary, training is available. The Association will refund any out of pocket expenses you incur whilst providing this support.
How you can make a difference
The Oxfordshire Branch is run entirely by volunteers who work together in many different ways to provide support, increase awareness in the community about MND, and raise funds at a local level. These funds are used in a variety of ways: for example, to provide stair-lifts, help with vehicle adaptation, and occasionally to help with holidays.
We urgently need more volunteers. You don't need personal experience of MND - just the desire to help - and there are many volunteering opportunities including:
- Helping to organise or support a fund-raising event
- Making refreshments at support meetings
- Helping with publicity and mailings
- Becoming an Association Visitor
- Making a donation to local funds (for details please contact our Branch Secretary)
Association Visitors
Association Visitors offer support and friendship to people affected by MND by making regular telephone contact and visiting people either in their homes or in residential care. They provide a valuable link to the MND Association and other local sources of help.
The sort of people who volunteer as Visitors are good listeners who work with tact and sensitivity and understand the need for confidentiality. They are caring, reliable people able to offer many forms of practical support.
As a Visitor in the Oxfordshire Branch you will work as part of a team that includes the Regional Care Development Adviser (RCDA), and other Visitors. In return for your time you will receive a free four-day training course which has won national recognition, and are likely to make some wonderful friends. Out of pocket expenses are paid to Association Visitors.
To find out more about becoming an Association Visitor for the Oxfordshire area, or for an informal chat about the role, please contact the AV Co-ordinator via our Branch Secretary.
